We put in a good number of custom fish tanks…some people ask us whether custom tanks have to be bigger … and require more work?

It’s a great question and this is a little misunderstood but custom tanks do not have to be really big. In fact a big trend these days is to have something called a nano tank, which is anything from 5 gallons to 20 gallons. They fit on a desk top but from a maintenance point of view, because they are so small, when something starts to go wrong, it goes wrong very quickly.

It’s a little counter intuitive but these smaller tanks need nearly constant attention but are perfect for hobbyists who like to work on their tank every day. However if you only want to do periodic cleaning, testing, and water changes, do not get a nano tank.

however for the larger aquariums, we recommend putting in 2 separate filtration systems, so that you can avoid any kind of emergency situation. For example, if a pump dies, the other will still be running, so you maintain the filtering and the oxygen levels, without which you will end up with dead fish. Also in larger tanks, we’ll put in a battery operated air pump, which automatically turns on if the power goes out. This is run by two double D batteries, which will keep the fish supplied with oxygen for at least a couple of days.

We keep aquariums clean and healthy for our clients and save you all the work.
